SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Quality Technician will be the primary Quality coordinator between departments in the plant for quality issues and concerns. With a proactive approach, the Quality Technician will investigate quality issues and develop measures and/or create procedures that will eliminate repetitive failures. The incumbent will understand and follow ISO requirements, 8D problem solving and assist with plant quality audits. Must be a good communicator oral and written with computers skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.

REPORTS TO (Title) : Quality Manager

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acts as liaison between Manufacturing and Quality relative to customer specifications, customer quality requirements, customer problems along with internal specifications.

  • Monitor all manufacturing processes through audits and daily evaluations, to ensure that processes are being followed and short cuts are not being taken, jeopardizing the quality of our product.

  • Continually strive to improve: Testing methods, tooling, and equipment that will ensure adequate quality in our manufactured product.

  • Qualify and Maintain Inspection records from the Machine shop.

  • Qualify and Maintain Inspection records from Vender FAI’s (First Article Inspections).

  • Assist in conducting annual plant audits and systems surveys.

  • Manage and Maintain Calibrated gages. To include GageTrak and ensure calibrations are up to date.

  • Send gages for repair and calibration.

  • Remain flexible with daily activities to handle emergency issues as they arrive.

  • GD&T blueprint reading. Be able to provide support and training to Supervisors and Union workers.

  • Know and understand Mitutoyo and Zeiss CMM capability and limitations. Provide support to Inspectors.

  • Continually assist departments in the implementation of quality improvement programs.

  • Continuously review and update Quality Assurance procedures and systems.

  • Work with engineering to develop simple and efficient methods of testing new product lines.

  • Provide support as deemed necessary by management to allow the Quality Department to function efficiently.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to review customer complaints, analyze returns and make recommendations for corrective action.

  • Monitor Supplier performance.

  • Open Follow Up and coordinate closing of Supplier Corrective Action (SCAR’s).

  • Assist with Supplier Audits and maintaining Supplier Quality System.

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Quality Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND REQUIRED ABILITIES:

  • Effective communication

  • Must have working knowledge of manufacturing and quality processes and principles (ISO) industry standards.

  • Requires experience in product and process failure analysis and an understanding of quality techniques such as SPC, CMM, GD&T etc.

  • Must be skilled in use of personal computers with emphasis in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.

  • Must be skilled to work with team(s) and collaborate with other functions and shop floor employees.

  • Must express excellent communication, oral and written with the ability to communicate up and down the chain of command.

  • Express the ability to present, and train individuals and small teams with confidence.

  • Must understand quality techniques with a methodical approach.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five years experience in manufacturing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Perform general office functions.

  • Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.

  • General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.
