BUSINESS UNIT OVERVIEW:

IDEX Health & Science- Rochester, Filters/Semrock, group based in Rochester, New York develops and manufactures high-performance optical thin-film filters that set the standard for biotech and analytical instrumentation. The Semrock/Filters group is a rapidly growing, with revenue from both the volume OEM sales of tailored products and from the sales of standard catalog products to end-users. Semrock’s optical filter products are set apart by their state-of-the-art performance and reliability. Major markets include optical filters for fluorescence imaging and measurement systems, for Raman spectroscopy systems, and for laser-based analytical instrumentation.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

In support of its expanding business, theFilters/Semrock, groupis looking for a well versatile person to join its manufacturing team in the role of a material planner/scheduler. The position will be part of the Logistics team and will be responsible for creating manufacturing work orders, determining schedules, and purchasing of raw materials for the optics manufacturing department of the plant operations in Rochester, NY.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Creation of optics manufacturing work orders based on incoming orders & kanban needs

  • Scheduling of equipment and prioritization of work orders

  • Creation of manufacturing travelers for all optics manufacturing jobs

  • Setting up and maintenance of manufacturing jobs and templates in ERP

  • Ownership of Bill of Materials (BOM) and manufacturing operations in ERP

  • Assisting with the kitting of materials for job orders and inventory tracking as necessary

  • Purchasing of raw materials for the optics manufacturing department including consumables, labels, cell markings, etc.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED ABILITIES:

Success in this position calls for a detail oriented person who has very strong organizational skills and an excellent work ethic. The person should have experience in a manufacturing environment and a familiarity with MRP or ERP systems.

Applicant must have exceptional time management and computer skills as well as an attention to detail. Familiarity with VISTA and/or JD Edwards ERP software, Lean Manufacturing, and Process Documentation is desired but not required. A technical background in a relevant field and a 2 or 4-year college degree are also desirable but not required.

The ability to work in a small team environment, strong written and oral communication skills as well as a willingness to tackle any challenge is required. The right individual will also show strong initiative and will be able to work with minimal supervision.

The opportunity will require a mix of manufacturing and computer skills. The right person will enjoy the challenge of a dynamic, small company environment and be able to efficiently create the manufacturing schedules for the finishing department based on sales and forecast needs.Occasional weekend availability required.
