IDEX Manufacturing Technician in Punta Gorda, Florida

The Manufacturing Engineering Technician role provides technical support to Engineering supporting manufacturing processes and layouts, product testing, equipment specifications, Production support, and a technical analysis of warrantable claims and repairs.


The principle responsibilities of the Manufacturing Engineering Technician shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create and update process flow charts and maps.

  • Create machine documentation such as: equipment information, start/stop processes, preventative maintenance instructions, etc.

  • Executes tasks associated with process validation and engineering studies.

  • Assists in process improvements for existing manufacturing processes utilizing appropriate engineering principles and standard strategies.

  • Assists in measurement system analysis, and gage implementation as required. Is able to use various types of measuring instruments including, micrometers, calipers, comparators, etc. to support engineering testing.

  • Supports tasks related to requisitioning equipment and materials and performing vendor and equipment analysis for engineers to determine cost effective and high quality processes.

  • Checks basic drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensions.

  • Provides support for designed experiments and capability studies, collects documents and files records on process specifications.

  • Assists plant layout in the placement of machinery and participates in material handling strategies.

  • Provides support to training activities for shop floor personnel.

  • Review, enter, and process credits and warranty returns.

  • Work with Customer Tech and Customer Service regarding warranty requests, product credits, disputes, etc.

  • Maintain records of warranty returns for reporting and identifying trends in quality issues and recommend potential design improvements.


  • Excellent manufacturing process knowledge

  • High degree of mechanical aptitude. Has the ability to disassemble / assemble products, inspect parts for conformance to requirements and identify faults and failure modes.

  • Experience using force and strain gauges, oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators and other test equipment in lab and real world settings

  • Ability to investigate failures; differentiate factual evidence from speculation and other non-verifiable inputs and draw conclusions to possible root cause of failure.

  • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills. Basic understanding of electrical circuits and power. Ability to analyze and diagnose electrical systems using basic measurement techniques (e.g. multimeter, oscilloscope).

  • Customer Service experience including the ability to tactfully communicate and resolve disputes in English with both internal and external customers regarding product performance, possible misuse or misapplication of product.

  • Organize, categorize and report warranty claim data by product family

  • Has the ability to identify and diagnose product defect, fault and performance issues with limited available information.

  • Ability to process RMA’s and inventory transactions using business enterprise ERP system (JDE).

  • Ability to work as part of a team and cross-functionally with other departments.

  • Computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, Internet)

  • Strong Oral & Written Communication skills


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Some advanced technical training or education (a plus)

  • 2+ years experience in a manufacturing or similar business environment


  • Ability to stand for an 8 hour shift

  • Ability to lift 60 lbs

  • Exposure to caustic and hazardous chemicals (hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc…)

  • Computer work will consist of approximately 33% of the shift

  • PPE includes safety glasses, safety footwear, gloves, occasionally mask.
